Surge in Altcoin Exchange Deposits
Recent data from CryptoQuant reveals a staggering 160% increase in altcoin exchange deposits over a two-week period. The number of deposits reached approximately 78,000 transactions on September 28, marking the highest rate since October 2025. This surge has raised concerns about potential selling pressure within the altcoin space.
Record Numbers Indicate Potential Selling
According to CryptoQuant, the number of unique addresses involved in depositing altcoins has almost tripled from around 17,600 to 51,600 within the same time frame. Such a sharp rise usually implies that holders are preparing to sell their assets on exchanges. "When holders move coins to exchanges, they typically intend to sell," CryptoQuant stated in its latest report, signaling a noteworthy shift in market sentiment.
Bitcoin's Market Dominance Stays Steady
While altcoin inflows peak, Bitcoin's share of the total crypto market capitalization remains stable, fluctuating between 58% and 60% since late May. The stable dominance of Bitcoin contrasts sharply with the rapid expansion of the altcoin market, which is positioning itself for potentially significant gains in the coming weeks.
Growing Altcoin Market Share
Interestingly, assets outside the top ten cryptocurrencies by market capitalization accounted for 9% of the total market share as of September 27, the highest level since February. This indicates an emerging trend where smaller altcoins are gaining traction, driven by increased trading volumes and investor interest.
What This Means For Traders
For active crypto traders, these developments could represent both opportunities and risks. As altcoins gain market share, savvy investors might look to diversify their portfolios by including promising altcoins that are experiencing increased deposits. However, caution is advised, as the intention to sell these assets could lead to short-term volatility. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for positioning oneself effectively in an unpredictable market.
